Thomas Gates wasn't just Miss Parker's fiancé he was Jarod's friend. On the one-year anniversary of his death, Jarod prods Miss Parker into finding out who murdered Thomas. He gives Miss Parker the only clue that he has-a name and number: RUMOR 58259. Jarod also reminds Miss Parker that solving the mystery of his death isn't her only unfinished business with Thomas Gates.

Mutumbo has been murdered and mutilated, his eyes gouged out by the killer. The murder weapon belongs to someone in the upper echelons of The Centre-no one is above suspicion. While Mr. Cox stalks Broots, seeking information about where Mr. Parker is hiding, the technician tracks the meaning of RUMOR 58259 for Miss Parker.

Haunted by apparitions of Thomas, Miss Parker finds no comfort from her father, who makes a brief stop at her home on his way to a place where Brigitte can have their baby in safety. Ignoring her need to know where he will be, Mr. Parker only wants to borrow her car so that he and Brigitte have transportation.

Learning that Brigitte and RUMOR are one in the same, Miss Parker pursues Brigitte to her cabin, intending to "even the score" for Thomas' murder. Finding her stepmother alone and in labor, Miss Parker is stretched to the breaking point as she successfully delivers her baby brother but loses the fight to prevent Brigitte from bleeding to death.

Sickened by her father's complete lack of remorse over the death of his wife, Miss Parker struggles to comprehend the events that are unfolding around her, as she learns that Doctor Cox is a gynecologist who has long been in league with Mr. Parker. In a daze, Miss Parker watches Cox cold-heartedly follow her father's orders-collecting the cord and placenta from the afterbirth, then framing Brigitte for the death of Mutumbo by putting the murder weapon into her hand before setting the cabin ablaze.

At Thomas' grave site, Miss Parker has a phone conversation with Jarod and admits that of all the things she said to Thomas when he was alive, she never told him that she loved him. She tells Jarod that she would give anything for just enough time to do that. At the end of the call, as if on cue, Miss Parker experiences a final moment with Thomas. At last, Miss Parker is able to say the words that she could never say before and tells Thomas Gates that she loves him.
